Camp David of the Ozarks
We were blessed several years ago to meet a young couple from Rolla MO. They had a camp for the children of the incarcerated. It is an Angel Tree Camp. They asked us to come and be "Camp Grandparents". We were honored! We went for 2 weeks that summer are were there for the Junior Girls and Junior Boys weeks. Our primary duties were to be "Grandparents"! Comfort, hugs, bedtime stories. We wrote a letter each day to about 12 of the campers, catching them in something, encouraging them...telling them that we loved them...things they rarely heard. We also participated in Craft Time and Bobby had the boys for a rotation every morning with his remote control planes and talking to them about the Lord. Each girls week they have a Princess Dinner Dance. The girls dress up and are treated to a fancy dinner and dance. The boys have a Royal Kingdom Supper...Renaissance style. Every week there is birthday party with gifts and cakes...sometimes it is their only birthday party.
It is a wonderful place. I wish there was a camp like it every area. We had a great time and it is an experience we will never forget. I hope we can go back some time and do it again.
